Why do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance covers you for things that may go wrong on your holiday or business trip. These can range from small things such as if your luggage gets delayed, lost or stolen to medical emergencies such as if you require hospital treatment or repatriation.

It can be extremely expensive for medical treatment abroad and with the South African Rand being as it is it will could cost you hundreds of thousands of Rands if something goes wrong whilst abroad.

What type of travel insurance should I get?

Easy Travel Insurance offers a variety of policies. Our policies fall into 2 categories – business and leisure. Our leisure policies range from budget, luxury, Africa & Asia, Schengen, Student to Senior cover. We also offer cover for corporate and business travel.

We also work closely with other South African travel insurance providers. Please call should you require more options.

What countries am I covered to travel to?

The Schengen Visa Cover product only covers travel to the Schengen zone.

The Africa, Asia, Indian Ocean and Middle East product only covers travel to countries within these territories.

The Economy Leisure Cover product covers all countries EXCEPT USA and Canada.

The Luxury Leisure Cover, Business Complete Cover, Youth Cover and Senior Cover policies covers ALL countries.

You are not covered if you travel in regions or countries where the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a travel warning. Click here to check regions that have travel warnings.

My medical aid only covers me for a portion of my trip - can I take out a policy for the remainder?

Unfortunately one of Regents’ requirements is to cover the entire trip. You need to take out a policy for the full duration. Easy Travel Insurance does work with another provider that will cover a portion of the trip – either the first or last leg of the trip. Please call for details.

What is the maximum duration of your policies?

Different products offer a different maximum number of days. Africa & Asia, Budget, Business, Luxury and Student products have a maximum duration of 365 days. Senior policies can only be bought up to 92 days, maximum.

Should you require longer duration please call or email, we might have an alternative provider.

The Frequent Flyer Option is available on the Africa & Asia Cover, Budget Cover, Luxury Cover and Business Complete Cover. A policy under this option will be valid for 1 year and the insured may take multiple journeys during this period. Cover for each journey will be limited to a maximum of 90 days.

I am looking for a policy for missed connections & lost baggage only - can I have this cover only?

No, our policies can only be taken out in full.

If you require lost baggage cover you might want to consider requesting cover from your home contents provider.

I am NOT a resident in South Africa - can I take out your travel insurance?

Our outgoing travel insurance (Budget, Business, Leisure, Group, Student, Senior) are only for residents or citizens of South Africa. Our South African Visitors travel insurance is available to non-RSA citizens only. It is not suitable for South Africans with dual nationality.

We do work with another provider that covers citizens of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe. Please call or email us for details.

Can I use your travel insurance for emigration purposes?

Yes. Our Economy Leisure or Luxury Leisure policy can be purchased for emigration purposes. The maximum duration is 31 days. You can purchase the policy online but please contact us to place an endorsement on the policy.

What sort of activities are excluded on your policies?

Crew member of a ship, working on off-shore drilling rigs, undertaking non-casual employment abroad on a permanent or contract basis, big gaming hunting, deep sea fishing, hang gliding, ice climbing, rock climbing, running of the bulls, skydiving, shark cage diving, zorbing.

How do I get a quote?

Getting a quote is easy.

On the right hand side of all pages please click on the ‘Online Quote‘ button. You will be redirected to Regent’s policy wizard where you can view the premium payable. Should you wish to purchase simply complete the next steps. Your policy and visa letters will be emailed straight away.

I have left South Africa. Can I still purchase travel insurance?

Unfortunately, we can not cover you if you have already left South Africa.  No South African travel insurance provider will be able to offer cover as you have already started your journey.

We suggest you try World Nomads. They will be able to offer cover if you have already started your trip.

How do I pay for the travel insurance?

Once you received your quote and entered all the required fields, you will be given an option to buy the policy by paying by credit card or debit card with a Mastercard or Visa logo.

If you select this you will be taken to secure server where you will be able to enter your credit card details and the payment will be processed.The policy documents will be emailed straight away.

Alternatively you can pay by EFT. An additional R50 admin fee applies. Please call or email us for details. Once we receive the proof of payment it normally takes 24 hours to receive your policy documents. (within business hours)

Where can I see the Schedule of Benefits?

To view the policy Schedule of Benefits please navigate to the products’ page (go to ‘Products’ at top menu, then click on any of the products below).

Scroll down to ‘Download the Details’  then click on the ‘Policy Schedule’ button. This will open the PDF version of the Schedule of Benefits.

How will I receive my policy?

You will receive your policy by email at the email address that you give us, giving you instant cover. Simply print a copy for the embassy and take a copy with you when travelling for easy reference.

Can I receive my policy by post?

Unfortunately we don’t post policies.

What happens if I need to make a claim?

Details on how to make a claim are contained in the document emailed to customers. Contact the Regent Travel Assist department on the emergency number on your policy document.

Who underwrites the travel insurance?

Our travel insurance is underwritten by Regent Insurance Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Imperial Holdings, a listed company with turnover of R32 billion.

Who is Easy Travel Insurance?

Easy Travel Insurance is a registered broker for Regent Travel Insurance. All policies are underwritten by Regent Travel Insurance. We also offer products from other South African travel insurance providers.

What do I do in a medical emergency?

In case of emergency, Europ Assist provides worldwide, 24-hour medical assistance for all our policy holders leaving you with the peace of mind that your insurance cover gives you emergency medical protection wherever you are.

For emergency assistance please contact Europ Assistance SA immediately: +27 11 991 8419 and quote your reference number on the email. All claims exceeding R2,000 must be approved by Europ Assistance at time of emergency.

What if I do not receive an email after I have purchased a policy?

Don’t worry if you have purchased the policy you are covered.The first thing to do is check your email’s spam or junk folder.

Please call 0870 550 4845 or 0861 900 801 (option 2) and they will resend the policy for you.

Who provides emergency medical assistance?

Europ Assist provides worldwide, 24-hour medical assistance for all our policy holders.

What happens if I want to cancel my policy?

Contact 0861 900 801 in the event that you wish to cancel your policy.

Regent’s policies have a 15 day money-back guarantee from the date of purchase provided your journey has not yet started, no visa has been obtained using this policy and no claims have been submitted; or
this policy may be cancelled if the insured journey is cancelled and no claims have been submitted; or
this policy may be cancelled if no visa is obtained, no claims have been submitted, but the policy is no longer required.
The policy cannot be cancelled if a visa application was approved based on the Regent travel insurance policy and the journey has not been cancelled.
The policy cannot be cancelled once an Insured Journey has started, or after the expiry date of the Insured Journey.

What if I made a mistake when buying travel insurance?

If you have made a mistake and purchased the wrong policy type or have the incorrect travel dates then you will have to contact the Regent help desk on 0861 900 801 (option 2).

Can I extend my travel insurance policy until I get a flight back to South Africa?

Yes, your policy can be extended. An additional premium will be required and we will put an endorsement on your policy for the extra days of cover.

I need a letter from my travel insurance company for a Schengen visa - do you provide this?

Yes, we provide the 1 page letter which the Schengen embassies require. This is sent along with the policy documents.

Can I be covered in South Africa?

Yes. You can purchase a Local Cover policy. Please note these policies don’t include medical emergency cover. Click here to view the Local Cover Schedule of Benefits.

What is your defintion of pre-existing condition?

PRE-EXISTING CONDITION means any condition that existed in the last six consecutive months prior to the date of departure that you/your relatives or Business Associate or dependent Children or the person who is the subject of the claim:
a) Have consulted a medical practitioner or specialist, or
b) Take prescribed medicine, or
c) Received treatment, surgery or advice, or
d) The manifestation of symptoms would have caused a reasonable person to seek advice, or
e) Are on the waiting list for medical treatment, or
f) Received a terminal prognosis, or
g) An ongoing medical condition of which you are aware

The above definition is for Regent Travel Insurance products only.

The policy schedule would include a sub-limit for pre-existing conditions.

Do you cover over 85s?

Unfortunately we don’t. As fall as we know no South African provider will cover anyone over 85 years of age. If you do manage to get a company to cover an individual over 85 please let us know – we would love to tell our customers.
